Rotary Solar Case
At this stage I have decided to defer any further case orders until I receive further feedback. Todate the feedback as per below has Been extremely positive, but I remain a one man band.
To move forward I would like to join with an interested Rotary Club, ideally in NSW, to share and discuss future progress and development. If your Club is interested please contact me to discuss [email protected] or via our contact page. I am a member of a very active E-Club where most members are extremely active in local and offshore projects - but the format does necessarily facilitate a Club based project and the discussion and input needed..

I apologise for delays in posting- I have been awaiting feedback but this has been delayed by the normal delays that must be associated with PNG etc. However Living Child's Cases have finally been delivered and are being distributed. Australian Doctors International has reported:
It always difficult getting written feedback ... word of mouth on the 2nd which is a large Health Centre ( almost a rural hospital) is that it is very useful and the have light to deliver babies at night when the power is out. The team unit is very useful in remote sport especially the USB charging ports." From the Phillipines - Rotary Club of Ozamiz North - : "· Does it supply the need of the midwives? Yes, they are so thankful for the supplies and in fact been using it since the turnover. They are usually visited by municipal health workers to do basic medical checkup to pregnant women and the children of their barangay (suburb). Since at their barangay, electricity fluctuates and most of the time they experience brownout and blackout, they were able to use the solar case to light their clinic ang charge units they need to use, such as their phones, the batteries, and the like. They weren’t able to take a video when they first used it but will just send another video when they will use the solar case again. · Is the equipment fit for purpose? Yes, the equipment and medical supplies greatly help with their operation. Since they either experience total blackout or brownout and fluctuation on electricity, the equipment greatly help to provide them with their temporary need for electricity. Aside from that, the medical items were also used when health workers do basic medical check ups to their members of the barangay. At least they now have their own medical supplies when they need it. Even the least items such as thermometer and foetal doppler, it provided great help and assistance to them since now they have their own." Thanks to members of the Rotary E-Club serving Humanity, two Cases have now been delivered to Isabel and the report received is very promising: "The cases are going really well and being used in the highlands in Ysabel. The director of medicine (Province of Ysabel) is in Geneva at the moment and has offered to get a report to us asap" In addition to the above, I have just returned from the Rotary World Convention in Melbourne where was very fortunate to meet up with Lucy Loki of the Nathan Loki Foundation, PNG. (see - https://youtu.be/mtWn8ydTolk and https://www.facebook.com/pnlfpng.page/ )Lucy was there representing Teacher in a Box, see below, but was also very interested in maternal and child health in PNG - we exchanged a great deal of information and demonstrated the Case. Lucy will be visiting Port Moresby shortly and we hope to build a much closer relationship:
We still have Cases in transit to PNG, Phillipines and Nepal - COVID etc impacting shipping etc. However, we also have reports starting to filter in from Australian Doctors International placements - please see attached
In respect of the issues raised by the reports -
Sunlight will always be an issue, it is there, they just have to pick the best spot and run a lead. Roof mounted 120-160 watt permanent panels should keep the battery charged even in dim light (to be supplied locally). However, these three Cases have 120 watt solar baskets to enhance mobility - thus placement is important. On the other side each Case has 4 uUSB rechargeable lights that last in excess of 10 hours each. So light should always be available. We are currently experimenting with better Clinic lights, see below - these seem suitable but we need to see. They are USD8 each, but postage from China is USD80 plus - so we need some extra funding - anyone wish to place some funds in our RAWCS account for Christmas would be gladly appreciated. If suitable we would hope to order at least 50 and potentially replace some of the globe lights currently in the field. But one step at a time. and Supreme Group PNGRotary Clubs -

If you can assist please contact us on our Contact page. Current light supplied: Garage mockup: Two more Cases delivered to Rosie and Mal from the Rotary E-Club Serving Humanity. They sill shortly make their way to the Solomon Islands.
President Deb Atkins, Rudson Balcoma and PDG John Kevin with the Solar Case and equipment ready to be sent to the Philippines fitted out in WA by them...
News from PNG - The Solar Case sent to Hula Clinic remains operational. Unfortunately, the Case delivered to the Kerema Clinic was stolen from the clinic .
From the Hula Clinic - The system technically is fit for service and is long lasting and suitable for rural Health centres..solar yields is averaging reasonable 80%and 95%. The Case provided to Hula health has todate served to light to clinic with more them 56 patients and provided lighting to some 71 births of new babies. The light globes have proved to be the weak point, lasting only 6 months and then needing to be changed. We are looking further into this point with the current shipment of Cases being provided with spare globes. I need someone who can develop an acrylic case for a robust light and an electrician to help with the technical side, if you can assist please contact us - photos of our objective can be provided.
